Member of Parliament Trevor Prescod, who was removed from his post as Minister of Environment and National Beautification when Prime Minister Mia Mottley shuffled her Cabinet last week, is declaring that he has done nothing wrong in the country to deserve the treatment he said he has endured.
Breaking his silence, days after being removed from the post, Prescod told those gathered at this morning’s Emancipation Day celebrations, held at the Emancipation Station, also known as Bussa, Haggatt Hall, St Michael, that he never stole even a toffee from the state.
“Do you believe that I look so outdated that I cannot contribute to the development of Barbados? And I see men much younger and women much younger than me that can’t get up those stairs, serving at the highest level. I have a lot to tell you, but I am not going to tell you all now.
“This is not the time. I only came out this morning because I had no choice, because I didn’t want the interpretations to go around that I am in such a state of despondency, that I can’t even get out of my bed, and I am turning senile, and I am concentrating on committing suicide,” he said.
The MP for St Michael East vowed that wherever he goes, whether it is “BLP, DLP” he will always be the servant of the people of Barbados. He said whoever wants him, must “take it, or leave it as I am”.
Prescod noted that if he could live forever to do the work that allow his people to be recognized as equals in society and everywhere black people live, he would do it.
He recalled that two years ago when he was at the door of death, at the 11th hour, when he had given up, he stayed in the fight even though he had no energy to fight the colon cancer. He said he had one of the most severe operations, and when his friends visited him in hospital they saw a skeleton with a thin layer of flesh.
“I had to learn to walk again. You believe that that man, who they now say is dead, who they now say that I am posting things on Facebook about I want to commit suicide, and I have not been on Facebook for a long time.
“I can only survive with you. It is the people who stood with me before that I ask to stay with me now,” he said.
Meanwhile, Prescod also issued the reminder that there are a number of “uncle toms” in society who will never allow the masses to escape the shackles of modern slavery. He said that history shows clearly that nobody from a working class family can be at the forefront of the revolution for the freedom of the people.
““They use us over and over again to impress upon black people that they are here to create economic enfranchisement. Well I will tell you at some time, the economic enfranchisement that they created. I will tell you in case some of it doesn’t come in the paper.
“These uncle toms, who write in the newspaper, some of them leaving school, with scripture in home economics and all of a sudden some of them become professors of philosophy in all different types of disciplines, and hide behind school ties, trying to make you believe that they are speaking truth, and they have great vision and clarity with the required intuition to take us somewhere.
“They are the greatest uncle toms and sell out political racketeers. They trick us over and over again. I don’t have any right to anything, but I fight for what I want and trust me, all I am saying to you this morning in the most passive way that I can say it, just read Garvey and see how they treat us,” Prescod said. But Mr Prescod has no right to be a minister that is up to the discretion of the sitting Prime Minister
The PM made a very obvious and painful mistake when she took on so many ministers in the first in place
I strongly believe that Prescod should never have been one
She now has to remove a few more, like caddle and humphrey, king and medic, the PM caused this and now has to deal with it
She still has too many ministers in this recession
They will still get parliamentarian salary, so what’s the problem, find another job as well
The PM has the sole right to say who she wants and do not want in her cabinet
This is so nasty. You have made a contribution. You have recovered from cancer and your future via a pension is secure. Why not thank God, given your contribution and your respite from cancer, and try to enjoy the rest of your life… helping your constituents, pushing the philosophy to emancipate black Barbadians from mental slavery and so on.
Let your party enjoy a reduced cabinet which is needed, help to mentor young politicians…
why do people always want to hold posts? Is there no point when people are satisfied enough to give younger people an opportunity while they help to mentor them and so secure a better future for the country and their party. STupse. politicians doh!!! egomaniacs… always think it is only them!!!
He has a right to speak out he’s a senior member of the party like Payne also he’s is from the working class the PM haven’t said anything yet moderators saying she grooming the future, why when owen and the now PM was at it these was he grooming too .
Party yard fowls needs to stop it
Have you ever really listened to Trevor Prescod speaking.
Get some recordings and study them.
Sadly, his time is spent, exhausted. He is more of a rugged shop Steward/union activist and not a seasoned politician and visionist
I would love to interview where he takes questions rather than him rambling
I guess we would not have heard him whining if he was not sacked. Sounds like a child when Mommy takes his toy away. Mr. Prescod I do not believe it was not the time nor place to vent your political frustration and only because you were demoted.
I totally agree to much ministers.

I fully endorse your comments Committed Bajan.
Go to the top of the class.
30 were elected but most were given the opportunity ti be ministers. How did those who were now selected felt while others were celebrated? Every one called for the cabinet to be reduced and now it happen its an issue. Others will be reassigned as the circumstances determine such. So each of them should feel disrespected ?Serve the ppl in what ever capacity is there to do such. Be supporyive and critical of the ” junior ppl” . There comes a time when our role will /must change. Know your role and be the best you can be. Guyana is a lesson for all. Power is not yours for ever …. embrace change
I agree with Committed Bajan and Marva100%. Precod never should have been in cabinet, and rather than be thankful for everything so far, he behaving like a spoilt brat who had his toy taken away.
First of all let me declare I have full respect for our prime minister but strongly believe that Mr Trevor prescod should never be removed from post he is such a pillar to society and majority of people he comes into contact with despite whatever illness he has endured and lived through they are not many like him they are only here to get votes and big pay at the end of the month and knows nothing about running a country or contributing to it in my view a lot of these new comers should be gone after many years of fighting back and forth without a government post he was given a post which I know he really deserve it should of come a long time ago but it seems that any government official who looks out for (poor peope) doesn’t reach too far he has helped so many people without a real position and to take that from him is a real disgrace I myself as a bajan have had help from him on numerous occasions getting work and so on and was never let down once and I know countless ivy and surrounding people can vouch for him as a good person that should be in post why not get rid of the ones raiding our economy and pulling down their own .To my prime minister whom I respect I’m a born ivy man who moved to Bush hall but would never forget prescod ,he really deserves a post .
The PM have the right to choose, dismiss, or reshuffle her team.
MP’s who are elected by the people have a right to speak also, and the paid, and unpaid operatives of political parties must realise this and let them be.
Not long ago he declared he is not Jesus and now he declares he is the saviour of us all!
In your opinion Sir,…….. But in the eyes of your boss the results show differently.
Committed Bajan and my sister’s namesake Marva nailed it for me. Nuff said.
