Marketing manager, Melanie Shambaugh, said beginning with captivating front covers from local amateur artist Irene Banfield, featuring recognisable elements of Barbadian life, the new directories captured the essence of all things Caribbean such as calypso, soca, carnival, rum, sea, rhythm, sunshine and exceptional people. Shambaugh said: “This directory is guaranteed to brighten up any coffee table. It introduces our readers to a plethora of trailblazing Caribbean people including Barbadian Internet pioneer Alan Emtage, abstract artist Jeena Chatrani, and legendary calypsonian Stedson ‘Red Plastic Bag’ Wilthire.” She added: “Join us on a tour around the Gallery of Caribbean Art in Speightstown, St Peter; learn the history of our regional instrument the steel pan; explore regional food festivals; and escape with our mini travel guide to neighbouring Caribbean islands.” Shambaugh revealed that with safety in mind, all of the new phone books would be individually sanitised before first being distributed to local businesses ahead of individual deliveries. The general public can pick up their sanitised copies from October 15, at various local stores including Massy Supermarkets, Popular Supermarkets; Jordan’s Supermarkets in Fairchild Street, Fitts Village and Speightstown; Carlton and Emerald City Supermarkets; and Sheraton Mall.
