The charter ceremony for The Aktion Club of Barbados, the only one in the country so far, was held last Saturday.
Sponsored by Kiwanis Club Pride of Barbados, the 13-member Aktion Club is a service club in the Kiwanis family for individuals with disabilities.
Jamaica and Bahamas are the only other Caribbean countries with Aktion Clubs.
Kiwanis Club Pride of Barbados is very passionate about equal opportunities for all, and about the promotion and facilitation of a fully inclusive Barbados.
For those reasons, it was therefore important and necessary to sponsor an Aktion Club in Barbados.
The Kiwanis have seen the positive influence of its service leadership programme at the primary and secondary levels in the form of K Kids, Builders Clubs and Key Clubs. The Aktion Club will be no different.
Governor Delores of Eastern Canada & Caribbean District and Lieutenant Governor Cynthia of Division 27 were both in attendance at the charter ceremony.
The Club’s president is Ashley Belgrave and the vice president is Jonathan Nurse.
The club has already launched its first project in the form of a clothing drive for The Salvation Army, and members are eager to start executing their many plans. (PR)
