The Barbados Water Authority wishes to remind its domestic and commercial customers connected to its sewage networks to clean their grease traps before the ”National Pause” comes into effect.

Poorly maintained grease traps can lead to issues such as blockages, back-ups, overflows etc. on customers’ properties
Additionally, such situations can in turn adversely affect the sewer network and other customers connected to the network if it is compromised.

Domestic

Domestic customers are especially asked to observe best management practices during this time, as many more persons will be working from home. More meals will be prepared within homes and the aim is to reduce the amount of Fats, Oils & Grease (FOG) getting into the system. Persons are therefore advised not to dispose of leftover food, visible grease or oils down the sink.

Individuals also need to be mindful of the items they are discarding via flushing. Only the 3Ps are to be flushed (Pee, Poo and Toilet Paper).

Commercial

As stated, commercial properties should have their grease traps cleaned before they close the properties, regardless of if they opt to close fully or partially.

Customers facing any challenges or those who may have wastewater related queries can contact the Authority via the Customer Service Centre at 434-4292.

This advice is not limited only to those customers connected to the Authority’s sewer networks, persons island-wide can also implement and benefit from these practices.
