Update: Young man missing at sea

Jerome Romario Edwards of Gays, St Peters is missing at sea, police said tonight.

According to lawmen, the 19-year-old went to Queens Street Beach, Speightstown, St Peter about 2 p.m., in the company of three male friends.

They all went into the sea. The sea was said to rough and choppy.

Around 3:30 p.m., Edwards was reportedly exiting the water when a wave struck him. He did not resurface.

Several persons called for help to find Edwards but were unsuccessful.

The police were summoned and subsequently, the Marine Unit and Coast Guard arrived and carried out extensive searches that have so far been unsuccessful.

The search was called off after about two hours due to poor lighting conditions.

Police are continuing investigations.
