Dame Sandra went into self-isolation after being exposed to COVID-19 by a member of the household staff at Government House who tested positive, Prime Minister Mia Mottley announced last Thursday. The Government head of COVID communications Unit told the latest briefing: “Her Excellency Dame Sandra Mason is doing well – [the] Prime Minister reported an incident where her Excellency had gone into isolation perhaps a week or more ago now. She has been fully tested, is doing fine, her tests are all negative, and Excellency will be taking the vaccinations publicly. So we are going to get to see Dame Sandra Mason, Barbados’ Governor General, being vaccinated,” Ambassador Thompson did not have up-to-date details on COVID tests for Chief Justice Sir Patterson Cheltenham who is also in quarantine as a precaution. But she said the Chief Justice is also “doing well” after being in contact with a person who was close to someone else who displayed possible signs of COVID-19. While the Governor General remains in quarantine, senior Anglican cleric Very Reverend Jeffrey Gibson, Dean of St Michael’s Cathedral is acting as Head of State.
