This week, The Barbados Light & Power Company donated 50 sanitising dispensers to the BTB for use on their buses. The dispensers will ensure that persons using the public transport system sanitise hands on entering the bus, before there is contact with anything or anyone within the space. According to the BTB Chief Operating officer, Lynda Holder: “In any day, we have more than 30,000 persons using the public transport system and this is across the length and breadth of Barbados. This impacts homes, businesses and many communities as public transport touches everyone in some form. Collaborations with entities such as Light & Power allow us to continue our efforts to flatten the curve in this pandemic and the Transport Board is extremely grateful for the donation.” Light & Power’s Manager of Communications and Government Relations, Jackie Marshall-Clarke, considered the opportunity as a win-win project for both companies and the many persons that it could affect. Internally, we are following Government directives and health protocols closely for the preservation of our employees and contractors. Externally, we want to do the same for our customers and in our communities to reduce the risk of spread of COVID-19. Donating the sanitising dispensers will certainly help the BTB to achieve this goal. Also, as essential workers too, we know what it means to be facing exposure every day and we hope that this effort will increase comfort levels and maybe lessen the mental stress for our frontline workers whom we sincerely appreciate,” she said. Over the COVID-19 pandemic period, Light & Power has dedicated great effort to assisting customers and persons in the communities with hardships because of the pandemic. In addition to providing new payment arrangements for electricity customers, they have provided funding through The Welfare Department and organisations like the Barbados Association of Retired Persons (BARP) to assist Barbadians. According to Marshall-Clarke: “The COVID-19 pandemic was unprecedented but Light & Power stands by its commitment to the safety, health and wellness of employees and their families, contractors, customers and everyone living in the communities around us.” (PR) Barbados Today Traffic You may also like Man injured after vehicle crashes into utility pole 20/12/2024 Senator urges cultural awakening on marine heritage 20/12/2024 Comprehensive marine environment laws necessary 20/12/2024
