REGIONAL: Weekend lockdowns to help curb COVID-19 spread

SOURCE: CMC – Prime Minister Andrew Holness on Sunday announced changes to the curfew hours that will include three-weekend lockdowns, as part of measures to reduce the spread of COVID-19.

From March 27 until April 12, a curfew will be in effect from noon on Saturdays until 5 a.m. on Mondays.

Holness said that from this Tuesday until Friday, the nightly curfew hours will remain 8 p.m .to 5 a.m

On Friday, workplaces will be required to close at noon, except for essential services which include: medical establishments, supermarkets, wholesalers, pharmacies, restaurants, and other food establishments, which will remain open up to the start of the curfew.

The first-weekend curfew begins the following day, Saturday, March 27.

During the week, the curfew will be 8 p.m. to 5 a.m.

Prime Minister Holness said during the curfew hours people will be allowed to seek urgent medical care and those who have overseas travel plans can make their way to or from the airport.

Essential services will also still be operational.

The country’s COVID-19 vaccination programme will also continue during curfew hours. But people going to get vaccinated must be able to show confirmation of the appointment.
