The number of COVID-19 deaths has moved to 44, following the passing of a 52-year-old Barbadian man on Tuesday, April 6.

He suffered from a chronic non-communicable disease and spent 14 days at the Harrison Point Isolation Facility before succumbing to the virus.

There were also six new positive COVID-19 cases, one man and five women,
recorded on Tuesday. They were identified from 558 tests conducted by the Bestdos Santos Public Health Laboratory.

Additionally, eight people recovered and were discharged from isolation. There are now 96 persons in isolation. This is the first time since December 31, 2020, that the cases in isolation are under 100.

Barbados’ confirmed cases of COVID-19 have reached 3,697 (1,788 females and 1,909 males). There have also been 3,565 recoveries. The public health laboratory has so far conducted 144,155 tests.

To date, 63,738 people – 26,344 men and 37,394 women – have been vaccinated as part of the National Vaccination Programme for COVID-19.

The administration of first doses will resume for one week from Thursday, April 8 to Wednesday, April 14. (BGIS)
