Police recovered an AK-47 assault rifle and took a man into custody last night at Upper Sergeants Village, Christ Church.
Lawmen said they received a report around 8:55 p.m., that four men were in the area acting in a suspicious manner.
When officers arrived, they encountered four men, one of whom was armed with the AK-47 assault rifle. The man pointed the firearm in the direction of the police who fired shots in an effort to defend themselves.
The armed man attempted to escape and, in the process, dropped the gun. He was pursued and captured and the rifle was recovered.
The man was also searched and four rounds of ammunition were found in his possession. The other three men fled across a bushy area and were able to escape.
Investigations are continuing.
Anyone with information that can assist the investigation is asked to contact the Hasting/Worthing Police Station at 430-7608/7614, Police Emergency at 211, Crime Stoppers at 1 800-TIPS (8477), or any Police Station.
