More than forty students have been given the opportunity to gain work experience and implement their knowledge in the organisations to which they have been assigned. “We know that many graduates of Bachelor programmes have the challenge of not having work experience on their resumes. This puts them at a disadvantage, as organisations prefer to hire persons that have had some level of professional experience. The Lok Jack GSB Bachelor of International and Sustainable Business has addressed this issue by providing all of our undergraduate students with internships at firms across various industries and sectors,” said Dr. Ron Sookram, Academic Director, UWI Arthur Lok Jack Global School of Business. The firms that have partnered with UWI Lok Jack GSB and provided internship opportunities for these students include Associated Brands Industries Limited, Coconut Growers Association, Ministry of Energy, Guardian Holdings Limited, Blue Waters, The Maritime Financial Group, PLIPDECO, RAMPS Logistics, IAL Engineering Services, iGOVtt, Office of the Prime Minister – Tobago Affairs. These organisations will be provide a safe, structured environment with a workplace mentor for each student. The students will be able to build relationships within the industry they wish to build a career, and the students learn valuable soft skills for communication, professional networking and workplace etiquette.
