Attorney-at-law Vonda Pile to serve the remainder of her prison term

The Barbados Court of Appeal moments ago “unanimously” affirmed the jail sentence of veteran attorney-at-law Vonda Pile.

That means the convicted lawyer will have to serve the remainder of her three-year sentence imposed by Madam Justice Pamela Beckles in 2019 after all the necessary deductions have been made.

The decision was handed down by the three-member panel of Justices Rajendra Narine, Francis Belle and Jefferson Cumberbatch. Justice Belle read today’s summary of the decision.

On June 5, 2019, Pile was found guilty, by a 7-2 majority verdict, of stealing $191,416.39 (US$96,008.22) from former client Anstey King between April 29, 2009, and October 26, 2010.

She was subsequently granted bail after she filed an appeal against her conviction and sentence.

Pile, an attorney for 26 years, maintained her innocence throughout her trial, even after the guilty verdict and sentence were handed down.

She was represented by Queen’s Counsel Andrew Pilgrim while Principal Crown Counsel Krystal Delaney, Senior Crown Counsel Oliver Thomas and Crown Counsel Kevin Forde were attorneys for the respondents.
