Days after the body of a reputed sex worker was found at an abandoned house, residents at Beckwith Street, The City were Wednesday struggling to make sense of the grim discovery.

Police spokesman Acting Inspector Rodney Inniss informed the media that lawmen have launched an investigation into the unnatural death of the unidentified woman, whose naked body was found around 5:05 p.m., decomposing in the yard of the abandoned property at Graham Alley, Beckwith Street.

When Barbados TODAY visited the area, residents said the woman was a Jamaican national who lived nearby. They said they did not understand how the body reached a state of decomposition without anybody noticing it was there.

A business operator in the area said he was trying to figure out how the woman’s body got into the yard in a community where somebody is always awake.

“There are people who does be out here 24/7. To get there, you got to pass here.
You couldn’t really smell anything. The position that she was in you couldn’t really smell anything. But when we see her she was getting ready to burst. But, life goes on and you have to accept the unexpected sometime,” the business owner, who requested anonymity, said.

Another young man who described the gruesome finding as unfortunate, said he was saddened to see what had happened to the woman with whom he has had several brief conversations in the past.

A woman who lives close to the unoccupied house said she too was shocked at the discovery. She said since Monday, she has not been able to sleep at night.

“What got me is that her body was in there and nobody didn’t even know. I know her but I don’t know if that was her working spot, I just don’t know how she know in there.

Somebody would have had to introduce she to in there. What got me frightened is the thought of who could have done that to her.

You don’t know if it is somebody around you. What got me too is the body carry along she clothes, shoes, she bag, everything.
Even if you is a prostitute you ain’t got to be without clothes.”

Another resident recalled that he last saw the woman alive on Saturday night.
