The beautiful greenhouse has a myriad of flowers, palm trees, fruit trees, mahogany trees and red-skin sugar apple trees which run on over an acre of land. Headley who is referred to as Supa G said that he fell in love with husbandry from the time he was a student studying agricultural science at Co-operative High School. Thus, he is seeking to go into schools and teach students the art of husbandry. “I am better known as Supa G and that G stands for growing. I have fruit trees and exotic plants, and all are growing. From a very young age, I fell in love with agricultural science. Headley’s green thumbI really wish and hope that other people including schools [would have that interest] as I intend to go into schools as soon as COVID-19 eases down. Every child is not going to get an office job so you need a backup plan so if that does not work this can work for you,” he said. The business owner for the past two years said that he realized that he had a green thumb after he planted his first fruit tree and decided to make a business from it. “The first thing I planted was a fruit tree and it did bear. So, since I planted one and it did bear, I said why not expand and go into palms. I have a wide range of plants,” he said. I was in operation for two years now but previously I was just trying it to see if it would work and so far, it is working. You have to love something to be able to do it every day early mornings and late nights and I love it,” he said. Headley said that he is offering a free lime tree to any Barbadian, all they have to do is to come to Supa G Palms and Plant Nursery. “There is a shortage of Bajan limes in Barbados, so I said why not donate a lime tree to each person in Barbados and get back our Bajan limes on the market. Come to Supa G Palms and Plant Nursery and collect your free lime tree,” he said. His giving nature extends to the Prime Minister of Barbados Mia Mottley as he noted he had a gift for her and is hoping to present it to her soon. “I have a gift for the Prime Minister Mia Mottley of fruit trees, mahogany trees, and palms. She doesn’t know about it as yet, but I have a gift for the Prime Minister here at Supa G Palms and Plant Nursery,” he said. The owner of Supa G said that he is seeking to have the business continue in the family as his grandson Marlando Hippolyte who is seven-years-old is also passionate about husbandry. “My grandson is passionate about husbandry. Some of the plants in the nursery were planted by him. He comes here after school and waters the plants and is always eager to help. It is my hope that he would carry on the business in the nottoo-distant future,” he said. Headley’s word of advice for any young person seeking to become involved in husbandry is to not quit. “First of all, do not quit because nothing is easy at the beginning, it is hard work, day and night, but you will reap the rewards at the end,” he said.
