DLP honours CARIFTA teams and officials

The Barbados CARIFTA athletic and swimming teams were formally recognised on Thursday during a brief presentation hosted by the

Democratic Labour Party (DLP) at the Wildey Gymnasium.

The event was held to honour the teamโ€™s exemplary performances at the 2026 CARIFTA Games and CARIFTA Aquatics Championships.

ย 

Certificates of congratulation were presented to athletes, coaches and officials by chairman of spokespersons, Senator Ryan Walters and the DLPโ€™s spokesperson on sport, Pedro Greaves.

The DLP explained that the intent of certificates was to recognise not only medal-winning performances, but also the wider contribution of team members whose collective effort contributed to Barbadosโ€™ overall showing.

Senator Walters commended the entire delegation for its commitment and representation of Barbados.

ย 

โ€œWe acknowledge every member of this team, not only those who stood on the podium, but those who contributed through their effort, discipline and support.

โ€œCertificates were prepared for every team member, coach, official in both competitionsโ€ฆOnce you were a part of the 2026 CARIFTA group we salute you. You have all played a role in making Barbados proud,โ€ he said.

Greaves also extended congratulations to the group, while encouraging them to continue striving for excellence in their respective disciplines.

โ€œYou have set a high standard, and we urge you to continue striving, continue excelling and continue representing Barbados with pride,โ€ Greaves stated.ย

Separate commendations were issued recognising performances in the CARIFTA Games and CARIFTA Aquatics Championships, as well as the work of athletic and aquatic officials.

ย 

Representatives from the athletics and swimming teams expressed appreciation to the DLP for the gesture, noting that the certificates would serve as lasting reminders of their participation in the regional event.

ย 

The officials indicated that the recognition would allow team members, years from now, to reflect on what was described as a โ€œmagic momentโ€ in Barbadosโ€™ sporting history.

ย 

In attendance were: (athletics) Desiree Gamble, head coach; Kierre Beckles, coach; Daunte Harvey, assistant manager; (swimming) Dave Farmer, coach and Sharon Small, vice-president, along with other officials and team members.ย
