An “up and down” relationship with his girlfriend landed a St Philip man before the court today.

And his explanation on what provoked his assault on the woman he claimed to be “crazy in love” with, did not help matters.

Timothy Anthony St Pierre, 29, from Brereton admitted to assaulting the woman on October 15 and damaging her cellular phone.

The court heard from Sergeant Verdon Forde that the two have been in an intimate relationship for the past eleven months. St Pierre was in the habit of coming home intoxicated and getting physical with her.

On the day of the incident they were at home when a male called for her and she responded that he should come back later. That appeared to anger St Pierre who cuffed her in the face and hit her in the stomach. She cried out for help and received assistance from a neighbour. St Pierre then took her phone, bending it until it was damaged.

However the man, who has three prior convictions, one of which was unlawfully entering Chefette Restaurant, claimed that the woman’s action was what brought matters to a head.

He said, “She don’t trust me. Every day I come from work she pulls down my pants and smells my penis.”

After being questioned on why he subjected himself to such indignity, St Pierre said that on the day of the incident he did not cuff, but slapped the woman in her face after she had stabbed him in the back.

“I love she, she love me, it is an up and down relationship,” he added.

But the Chief Magistrate described the relationship as dysfunctional.

“Why can’t people who can’t get along just don’t move on. This is not normal behavior that you described. You all don’t understand what is civilized behavior and this is how you all work things out through violence. This is terrible and you think your behavior is normal? Are you crazy?” Weekes asked.

St Pierre responded: “No I am not sir, just crazy in love with she.”

“This sounds like an Ike and Tina Turner relationship,” declared Weekes who said St Pierre was in need of counseling which he believed should be done through the Partnership for  Peace programme.

In the meantime, he warned the convicted man to stay away from the woman including on social media. He was also told that he would have to compensate the woman for the damaged phone.

He was then granted $2 000 bail and given a December 10 date to reappear before the District ‘A’ Magistrates’ Court.

“If it is not working, walk away,” St Pierre was advised.
