‘Twas a night of much needed Christmas cheer flavoured with authentic Barbadian and Caribbean artistry as Mahalia Cummins and her Two Mile Hill band presented its first Mahalia’s Corner since the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic, in the form of a live show dubbed Mahalia’s Corner Christmas Special.
Though not held in the same live in-person format as previous Mahalia’s Corner iterations, Sunday’s live event delivered impressively on what it had promised, which was an intimate Christmas show that the whole family could enjoy.
The 90-min long show, which was shot at the Frank Collymore Hall, saw the local group coming together and showcasing their newest Christmas singles, including Together This Christmas and JOY, the latter of which also featured reigning Soca Monarch, Mikey Mercer.
The classic Christmas pieces were also not left out as Two Mile Hill, supported by the brass expertise of the GP Horns group, gave viewers online moving renditions of Angels from the Realm of Glory, Drummer Boy, Oh Holy Night and more.
Local spoken word artists Cyndi Celeste, DJ Simmons and Adrian Green also took part in the holiday show and gave viewers thoughtful pieces on what the season with Bajan culture is really about.
In closing off the event, the group delivered a groovy Spouge session of local Christmas hits, which saw contributions from local songbird Nikita, and multiaward-winning calypso and soca composer Stedson Red Plastic Bag Wiltshire who ended the night with his popular seasonal hit, Mazie. (SB)
