Wood who resigned as a member of the BLP in 2020, told a Democratic Labour Party (DLP) spot meeting at Lynches, St Philip, that he was not in agreement with the economic decisions the Mia Amor Mottley administration made since being elected to power in 2018. He said while he recognized the BLP led by former Prime Minister the Right Excellent Owen Arthur, he cannot relate to the existing BLP administration which he described as “an institution that stands for nothing”. “All the foundational principles that the Barbados Labour Party (BLP) was built on that I respected and that I got myself close to and I promoted because they were worthy of my promotion, all of them fall through the window and the party now has become the play thing, like the country, of Mia Mottley. But I am raising two daughters in this country and I will not sit idly by and allow the destruction of this country to continue,” he said. The former BLP member said despite having several well-paid consultants and economists, Barbados currently has bigger economic woes than it had before. He said Prime Minister Mottley recently warning Barbadians to brace for rough times that are to come, means that she is admitting that the country is in a complete mess. But Wood said in addition to economic challenges, Barbados also has a “morality problem”. He said there seems now to be the promotion of societal values that are anti-christian and encouraged Barbadians to vote to regain the “heart and soul of this country” on January 19. You have a problem with that. But I tell you anybody, any Prime Minister, any President that feels they can wage war with Christians that is a Prime Minister or President leading a country that is doomed to failure like where Barbados is now. So, we have a serious morality issue in Barbados never seen before. We have an overall governance problem where the administration seems now to have no regard and no respect for rules and regulations,” Wood said. On May 24, 2020, Wood published a paid press advertisement declaring that he was withdrawing his support for Indar Weir who won the St Philip South seat in 2018. Wood gave the assurance that he would be lending assistance to the DLP election campaign even if it entails no payment, because he strongly believes that the country has gone too far in the wrong direction too quickly.
