A team from Sandals Barbados and Sandals Royal Barbados comprising of both management and line team members came to the assistance of the neighbouring St. Lawrence Primary School, to offer support in setting classrooms, painting and a general clean-up of the school, days before opening.

Following the announcement that schools will resume physical classes beginning February 21, government this week noted that it will be on a phased basis, including flexible accommodation for certain teachers.

Sandals Barbados on learning of this jumped on the opportunity to assist one of its adopted schools with the preparation alongside teachers and parents.

“St. Lawrence Primary is our baby so to speak. It was the first school we partnered with in the community and we have built a relationship with the staff over the past eight years. We never hesitate to offer assistance when they require and today was no different,” said public relations manager David Hinds.

Employees of the Luxury-Included Resort arrived at the primary school equipped with paint, brushes and other items to assist the staff of the Christ Church School to be ready for their re-opening after an extended pause due to the ongoing COVID- 19 pandemic.

Head teacher Lorraine Gittens welcomed the initiative and thanked Sandals for the continued support.

“Over time, the Sandals Resort has become an integral and valuable member of the St. Lawrence Primary School family.

“We were blessed to have had their participation in our preparations for the return to face-to-face school. The energetic and enthusiastic Sandals team capably assisted with the painting of the school’s serving area, the moving of furniture and the arranging of classrooms.

“Sandals Resort has been a great corporate partner in these trying times. As a school body, we are truly honoured and thankful to have them as a team-mate and friend.”

One of the Sandals volunteers Dario Brathwaite commented that it was a great feeling to be out in the community giving back.

“This is the first time I have attended one of these projects and it was amazing. It feels good to know that I work for a company which is also heavily vested in giving back to the community.

This surely won’t be my last event and I will encourage my other workmates to come out and be a part of something special.” (PR)
