Students at The Lodge School got their game on this past week during an end of term competition of non-contact sporting activities.

The event dubbed, Revival saw students engaging in basketball, road tennis, foot volley among other sports.

Old scholar and coach Corey Beenieman Barrow who led the initiative with the help of Shernell Ward, an executive member of the school’s Parent/Teachers Association, said the friendly competition was aimed at reviving and stimulating interest in sports, particularly since protocols to prevent COVID-19 had virtually brought sports to a standstill.

It was also geared towards boosting morale and rebuilding the school’s image.

“Children had appeared to lose interest because of the lack of activity and competition, so I offered a little football, and then road tennis and basketball,” Barrow said.

The response was overwhelming. Students stepped forward to showcase their skills on the field and the court.

“It was a rewarding week, they enjoyed all the sports, the spectators enjoyed all the activities,” he added.

A major highlight was road tennis. Fabian Reeves of “Fabulous Affordable Furnishings” a young entrepreneur, sponsored the newly painted road tennis court, net and rackets.

“The newly painted road tennis court was a major drawing card for students, and staff alike, even parents that saw it liked it,” Barrow said.

The students were rewarded for their gamesmanship thanks to the generous donation from Ward’s business Forward Fantasy 246, and other old scholars who exceeded expected contributions.

Barrow said: “All in all it was a wonderful event. It was well worth it to see the smiles on the children’s faces, the laughter, the camaraderie and the friendly rivalry.”
