Sir Jimmy favoured for today’s feature event

Five-year-old USA-imported gelding Sir Jimmy looks like the headline entry among seven others in the Bertram Bertie Corbin Memorial Trophy Handicap going the sprint trip of 1100 meters this evening at the Garrison Savannah.

Corbin was a race announcer at the Garrison Savannah for over 40 years and also a horse owner.The race named in his honour is the eighth and final event on the card and is slated for 5:45 p.m.Sir Jimmy, owned by A and A and Mr Arjay, was a fast-finishing second by three and three-quarter lengths behind Bodi Tap in the Black History Month Handicap on February 19, his last race. Although going up nine pounds today to 120 from his last effort, he will be the main contender in the race. Only three horses in the field have been unplaced in their last efforts, making today’s entry a top class and exciting prospect for race fans. Trainer is Richard Deane and Dario Dalrymple has the mount out of Gate 4.

Joshua from the excellent Sean Hall barn is another horse to watch out for. Though he is now 11 years old, he will still be a force to reckon with and was a second-place finisher in his last time out. Matthew Badel will be carrying 127Ibs from Gate 6.

Rising creole star Dominus from the Sir David Seale barn is back after a 267-day layoff after finishing second to the now retired imported star sprinter Zagan, on July 16^th  last year. That was a race in which he left Joshua and Sir Jimmy behind him in fifth and sixth place respectively going 1100 meters. Dominus had won five 1100-meter races in a row before meeting Zagan and fitness will be the main question about the Andre Nunes runner later this evening. Rey Williams has the ride out of Gate 8 and will be carrying 125Ibs.

Newcomer Canadian Imported Corsi is a second entry for Sean Hall who has won two out of two with horses making their debut in Barbados. He won with Jogular on December 27 last year and with Intricately last race day and will be aiming for a third success with Corsi in a few hours’ time.

Out of the Josie Carol barn at Woodbine, Corsi a now five-year-old horse by Honor Code, won his first two starts as a two-year-old in 2019. He did not return to races until last year but finished down the field. Hall has been in this position before with his 1996 Gold Cup winner Rambrino which won his first start in England and was then winless in nine starts before he came to Barbados and won the Gold Cup. Tashawn Hazelwood has the ride from Gate 1 and will be managing 121 pounds. The rest of the field is made up of Stealin, Kariba Star and Refire.
