It is never too late to learn.

And individuals attending the Adult Education Programme at the Bush Hall Institute for Action who have taken the step to learn new skills have been encouraged to dream big and stay focussed.

Motivational speaker, Troy Holder, told the students during an Open Day event over the weekend, that even when they encounter challenges in life they must stay committed to achieving their goals, recognising that there is a price to pay for success.

“That price is going to be different for different individuals. But once you prepare to pay the price, it is going to be much easier to get what you desire,” he said.

Holder also reminded the participants that sometimes it may be necessary for them to keep their dreams to themselves. He explained to them that unfortunately, for various reasons, some of the people in their households will discourage them from following their dreams.

“And multiple failures are possible. Failure to the point sometimes that we feel like giving up, are possible. But if you continue to stay focused, every failure gets you closer to a yes,” Holder said.

The Open Day, held at the Yard Gap, Bush Hall, St Michael Institute, showcased the work of six students in areas, including cake icing, sewing, cake and pastry making and floral arrangements. Specially invited guests, and the students friends and family, did not only enjoy the beauty of the display, but they also received the opportunity to sample the offerings.

President of the Institute, Hallam Springer, told Barbados TODAY that six students participated in the open day event.

Springer said the 32-year-old instutute, did not have an open day for the past two years due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

“This programme is really a give back programme so to speak, to give people a second chance to prove themselves. There are those who made the switch from academics to softer skills and then there were those who moved from softer skills to academics. I am happy with the outcome of this open day. This was a dry run for what will come in September,” Springer said. (AH)
