Jamaican superstar artiste Shenseea and local act Brutal Crankstar were the stars of Summa Fest. Although the island was under a flood watch, that didn’t deter thousands of partygoers from flocking to the National Botanical Garden on Saturday night for the inaugural event.
And while another Jamaican Skillibeng was supposed to be the featured act, Shenseea and Brutal Crankstar had the fans begging for more with their energetic performances.
Brutal, one of the most popular local dancehall artistes, had the massive crowd moving from the time he touched the stage.
He unleased some of his hits, including Welcome to Barbados, Tekk Off, Paranoid and Rough Treatment, with the majority of patrons singing along to every word.
He was the perfect act to precede the 25-year-old Shenseea, who came on stage to screams at exactly 1:10 a.m. dressed in a glittering and bejeweled two-piece orange ensemble with matching thigh-high boots.
She interacted with patrons in the VIP, even bringing some of them on stage to sing along to some of her more popular hits. mShenseea wowed the crowd during her 36-minute set, performing songs such as Trending Gyal, the Shen Yeng Anthem, Foreplay, Good Comfort, and the Sidechick Song.
She also delivered a thrilling acapella of Lighter, which left the crowd begging for more when she exited at 1:46 a.m. The stage was then set for Skillibeng, who was set to hit the stage at 2:15 a.m.
Jamaican deejay legend Panta Son was scheduled to entertain the crowd until that time but ended up playing for an hour. When Skillibeng finally arrived at 2:45, he did so to loud roars but then proceeded to rush through his set.
None of the songs which he performed, including the extremely popular Whap Whap, Crocodile Teeth, Coke, Badman, Gag, and his Big Mood remix, lasted longer than a minute.
In what seemed like the blinking of an eye, his set was over, and he left the stage with some patrons seemingly in shock that the show was over. (RB)
