Bulls, Pinelands clash ends in controversy

The opening encounter between
Pinelands A and Burger King Clapham Bulls B ended prematurely at halftime over an issue where Bulls coach Tehron King raised concerns with officials regarding a last-minute name being added to the sheet.

Just before the third quarter began King voiced the matter where he pointed out that the scorer was attempting to write a player’s name on the sheet after the match had already commenced and which in actual fact should have been done before the match commenced.

However, the scorer denied writing anyone’s name on the sheet. After voicing his concerns to referee Jennifer Joseph-Hackett and seemingly not getting the satisfaction he had hoped for, King instructed his players to pack up and they walked off the court.

After blowing off the game, Joseph- Hackett said she would need to seek more clarity on how the matter can be resolved going forward.

The score was 33-11 after the first quarter and 56-28 at halftime to Pinelands who were in total control before the match was forfeited by Bulls. It seemed a given that Pinelands would have captured the win as it was their A team against a young inexperienced Clapham Bulls side.

But credit to the young Bulls for not backing down against much more seasoned players with the skill sets to rival any of the top teams in the country. Hence when Pinelands led 56-28 at halftime, it was expected with the cadre of players in the Pinelands squad such as Rasheed Maynard, brothers Deroni and Derion Hurley along with Kiserian Adams.

Maynard was sizzling as he scored a game high 20 points and was particularly unstoppable in the second quarter especially with Bulls B defender Kobe Prescod being unable to mark him effectively. Also getting on the score sheet for Pinelands was Deveron Knight and Derion Hurley who accounted for 14 each as they put the hosts in a good position to capture victory before the drama unfolded.

In the other game played on the night in Maynard’s, St. Peter, Pharmaceuticals Plus Mayhill defeated ACS United 66-41 after commanding the first three stanzas 20-10, 34-15 and 47-25. morissalindsay@barbadostoday.bb
