Pinelands A team destroyed
East Ave Realtors Young Bears 108-31, with a game high 25 points from forward
Deveron Knight, as the Co-operators General Insurance Barbados Amateur Basketball Association Club Challenge continued yesterday at Barbados Community College (BCC).
Pinelands were unstoppable as they commanded the first three quarters 36-8, 71-14 and 92-20 in what was a one-sided encounter as several players cashed in on scoring points against the Young Bears, who ironically did play more like cubs.
Point guard Rasheed Maynard contributed 22 points, Renico Brewster registered 14, brothers Derion Hurley and Deroni Hurley as well as Rasheed Moore all tallied 11 points each while Kemar Benn registered ten. Both Christopher Sandiford and Khristian Taylor scored nine points each at a time when Young Bears struggled to find a basket.
In the other encounters also played at BCC, Church Village Spartans B defeated Senators 60-52 in a keenly contested game in which Spartans B came from being in the opening quarter 14-17 to lead 33-32 and 49-42 in the second and third stanzas.
Larry King led from the front for Spartans with 23 points and Curtis Belgrave added 12 which were good enough to give their side a hard-fought victory. Senators top two players Kyhia Dyall (21 points) and Tristan Yarde (15 points) fought well and give it their all but just were unable to stop Spartan s B from picking up those crucial points coming on to the end of the game.
Barbados Lumber Company Lakers won 76-50 over Church Village Spartans A team who actually were up in the first quarter 18-17 but could not build on the momentum of their early efforts.
Mark Bridgeman top-scored with 16 points as Lakers came from behind to claim the second and third quarters at 31-24 and 55-36. Justin Bramao added 13 and Makaari Jones 11 for the victors. Spartans A captain and leading scorer Theo Greenidge registered 25 points but it was not enough to get his team over the line against Lakers.
It was a comfortable win for Premier League side Burger King Clapham Bulls A as they took charge 69-43 [25-13, 39-20, 53-33] against Smartmed Pharmacy Challengers. Rahiim Gibbons contributed 18 points, Shaquan Newton added 14 and Simeon Maynard scored ten. As usual Challengers could depend on Todd Bourne and he lived up to expectations with 22 points while Neil Patrick and Adrian Fowler both added ten points.
