Chief Magistrate Ian Weekes sentenced Allan Decurtis Junior Crichlow, of no fixed place of abode, on Monday after he pleaded guilty to three offences. Crichlow admitted to stealing 12 bars of chocolates and three boxes of wax paper belonging to Savings Plus Supermarket Inc on December 30, 2021. He entered the store with a trolley and was observed by security. He was seen taking up the items and placing them in a bag that he was carrying. As he made his way to the exit he was stopped by security and told of the observation but left the establishment with the items. Crichlow also pleaded guilty to stealing 69 packs of bread worth $281.44 belonging to Purity Bakeries between October 18 and 19; and also to stealing 13 packs of bread belonging to the same business between October 16 and 17. Station Sergeant Crishna Graham who read the facts said in both instances the bread was packed in the company’s trucks to be delivered to various locations. On one occasion Crichlow climbed over the gate, went to the truck and placed the bread in a garbage bag before leaving. On the other occasion he walked onto the compound, took up the items and walked out. He was seen on CCTV footage. That world sometimes does bring fast cash when you desperate,” the convicted man told the District ‘A’ Magistrates’ Court in his explanation. He also asked the court to impose a fine, a submission that was rejected by Chief Magistrates Weekes before the six months sentences on each offence to run concurrently were imposed.
