This global health observance day was started in 1991 by the International Diabetes Federation (IDF) and the World Health Organization (WHO) in response to the escalating health threat posed by diabetes. While the overarching theme for the 2021-2023 campaign is Access to Diabetes Care, the theme for WDD 2022 is Diabetes: Education to Protect Tomorrow. The Diabetes and Hypertension Association of Barbados (DHAB) will host multiple activities this month in observance of World Diabetes Day 2022. Diabetes screening takes place at multiple venues across Barbados targeting adults with a family history of the condition as well as those who are overweight or recognise that they have unhealthy lifestyle habits. Contact us if you are interested in being tested. Members of the Association and the public are invited to join the congregation of the James Street Methodist Church in Bridgetown on Sunday, 13 November 2022 at 9:00 a.m. to commemorate World Diabetes Day and to offer God praise and seek His continued guidance and direction to fulfil the Association’s mandate. The Lions Club of St. Michael has graciously offered to host a 5K Walk and Run to raise funds for The Diabetes and Hypertension Association of Barbados. We recognise that health is a multi-stakeholder effort and therefore we have brought on board the Barbados Diabetes Foundation and the Breastfeeding and Child Nutrition Foundation of Barbados. We warm-up at 3:30 p.m. at the YMPC Grounds and hit the road at 4:00 P.M. sharp.
