The Christmas Hamper Challenge started on December 1 and encouraged corporate Barbados as well as individuals to pledge items for twelve days. President Trustee, Samantha Hazlewood-Ermay, stated, “We are really thankful this year for the donation from Barbados Flour Mills-ADM along with the employees of Jada. There are many other individuals who took the challenge of buying certain items for the 12 days or donating monetary funds towards the cause. We are thankful that our target was met.” She went on to say, “Some may say that 40 hampers is a small amount, but to be honest, we have to realise the cost of living has gone up and items are way more expensive. On top of that, the baskets should last a family for at least two months.” Director of Volunteers Kanesha Duncan-Harewood expressed her gratitude to the UWI students who are a part of the “Give Back Barbados” programme who signed up to wrap gifts, pack, and drive. “We were pleased to have eight Give Back Students involved in this exercise and they gained not only their hours but a great networking opportunity.” The herculean task to pack and deliver the items took place on December 17th and 18th. The families were selected from persons who emailed or were recommended to the charity as deserving families.
