Backed by the sweet sounds of the Barbados Police Service Band, local singers took to the stage of the Western Light Church of the Nazarene on Tuesday to spread joy at the Democratic Labour Party’s Christmas Concert for 2022.

The packed auditorium saw renditions by featured singer Donella who performed a number of Christmas hits including Gee Whiz It’s Christmas and The Reason for the Season.

Also gracing the stage was singer Dennis Warner who performed Both Sides Now, a Judy Collins original of I Won’t Last A Day Without You, The Carpenters original of Home This Year, which was written, composed and  arranged by Warner.

Warner told Barbados TODAY that he loved that he could perform for the DLP family.

“Spreading love, joy and happiness, is a way of life for me. However, at Christmas, all of those feelings intensifies, times over. So sharing with others through my performance was totally gratifying,” he said.

President of the DLP Dr Ronnie Yearwood during his brief address lauded the police band for their wonderful work.

“I just really want to thank you for coming out as we celebrate the Christmas season as we remember why we are here in celebrating the birth of our lord and savior Jesus Christ. I also want to thank the Barbados Police Service Band. I want to thank them under the supervision of Dexter Norville. This is my third time seeing them for the year and it never gets old, it never gets tired. Thank you so much for your music and for your gift,” he said.

The President also thanked Donella and Warner for their musical presence.

Former Senator Dr David Durant said with many events happening worldwide the evening of relaxation and fellowship was much needed.

“I think it was a very good concert … with the Barbados Police Service Band. I was impressed with their professionalism and the level of music that really filled the atmosphere with that kind of joy, bringing hope to people in this time of sadness and so many things happening,” he said.

Treasurer of the DLP Jeff Shepherd had well wishes for Barbadians for Christmas.

“I wish everyone well and I hope the economy grows and the high cost of living is taken down. We hope that we can see some ease in the prices in the supermarket and across Barbados,” he said.

Other highlights included performances by the very bubbly Constable Tanya Maughan who performed Santa Baby and Do you Hear What I Hear among other songs. Sharing the spotlight with her was Constable Cheri Dickerson.

The police band was directed by Acting Deputy Director of Music Superintendent Dexter Norville who did a superb job at managing the work of the band. (MR)
