Congratulations to Wildey on winning the 2022 BCA Elite division three-day Championship and IGS Insurance Brokers Yorkshire, who captured the First division.

Formerly known as Banks and Banks Wildey, it is the seventh top division title for Wildey. They were also champions in 1978, 1979 (shared with Spartan), 1986, 2001, 2002 and 2007.

It is a great achievement for Yorkshire, as they will be promoted to the highest division for the first time since the promotion/demotion system was introduced in 2009.

From 2012, with a settled number of ten teams, the top Competition was rebranded from First to Elite division, and the Upper Intermediate was called the First.

Now, St. Catherine will be relegated from the Elite and Combermere from the First division.

Coincidentally, both teams were also demoted at the end of the 2019 season but were “reprieved” after BDFSP were unable to field a side in the Elite division this season. There were no “league” competitions in 2020 and 2021 because of the Covid-19 pandemic.

Points for the 2022 season:

Elite division – Wildey 115, YMPC 100, Empire 88, Spartan 88, Gladiola 82, UWI 78, Wanderers 76, Carlton 74, St. Catherine 66, Barbados Youth 35. NB: Barbados Youth are exempt from demotion.

First division – Yorkshire 141, Foundation 97, Pickwick 95, UWI 91, Police 89, Barbados Youth 71, Lords 70, Maple 70, Isolation Cavaliers 59, Combermere 55.

Since 2009, UWI have won the top division Championship seven times – 2009, 2010 (shared with Spartan), 2011, 2012, 2015, 2017 and 2018; Spartan twice – 2010 (shared with UWI) and 2019; Maple (2013), Empire (2014), St. Catherine (2016) and Wildey (2022) are the other champion teams.
