First-time mom welcomes country’s first baby for 2023

One New Year’s baby has been delivered so far at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital, while another is on the way.

First time mother Chinica Franklin told the media that her baby girl, Rennica Toppin, came around 7:16 am, weighing seven pounds and two ounces.

She recalled her experience.

“It was long, nine hours and she is nine days overdue; so I guess her lucky number is nine. It was not too bad at the beginning for the first four hours but coming onto the end is when all the pain started to hit. So, half of the stories that people were telling were actually true. But the good thing is that she is here and healthy,” she said.

Franklin said that she helped raise a number of her nieces so she already had a mother’s instinct. However, she said she was overjoyed to have her own child. (SZB)
