WSET provides a globally recognised qualification and education in wines, spirits, and sake for professionals and enthusiasts. This prestigious three-day training was offered to Ocean Hotels Group employees as part of the ongoing initiative of the hotel group to continue to invest in their employees. The Level 1 course was taught by Michelle Cherutti Kowal MW, who is one of the 400 Masters of Wine in the World, a judge for Decanter Wine Magazine and the International Wine and Spirits Competition (IWSC). For individuals new to wine study, the course provided a hands-on introduction to the world of wine where they explored the main types and styles of wine through sight, smell, and taste, while also gaining the basic skills to describe wines accurately and make food and wine pairings. “At Ocean Hotels Group, we’re committed to a culture of exemplary service, cultural immersion, and an approach to hospitality that prioritises genuine human connections and an opportunity to uplift and support our own community while nurturing local talent,” said Ocean Hotels Group Human Resources Manager, Brittany Brathwaite. “We are excited for our employees to increase their knowledge and feel empowered to confidently discuss wine and spirits with our guests to better enhance their dining experiences, as a result of completion of WSET’s international training programme.” Out of the participating employees, 26 passed the Level 1 course. Passing participants received a certificate and lapel badge and are now eligible to continue their education with the Level 2 course.
