A teenager who allegedly committed an aggravated burglary at a supermarket in Sugar Hill, St Joseph earlier this month has been remanded to Dodds.

Ericko Malique Williams, 18, of Bibby’s Lane, St Michael, is accused of entering Mumus Supermarket as a trespasser, armed with a gun, and stealing $3 704, on January 7, 2023.

He appeared before Magistrate Douglas Frederick in the District ‘F’ Magistrates’ Court on Monday.

Station Sergeant Glenda Carter-Nicholls objected to bail for Williams based on the nature and seriousness of the offence, especially given the allegation that a firearm had been used.

Presenting further grounds for the teen to be denied his pretrial liberty, the prosecutor stated that there was a need to protect society and noted that the accused was already on bail on another charge.

In his application for bail on Williams’ behalf, attorney-at-law Martie Garnes acknowledged that his client was currently on bail for robbery but pointed out that he had always attended court when required.

The defence lawyer also submitted, among other things, that there was no evidence against his client and suggested that stringent conditions could be attached to bail.

After considering the submissions of the prosecution and defence, Magistrate
Frederick remanded the accused until February 10.
