A new medical centre has been opened to give Barbadians options when seeking emergency medical care.
Urgent Care Barbados officially launched their Medical Centre at the Estates at St George on Monday evening.
“This is the home not only of Barbados’ newest and largest Urgent Care clinic but also the home of Urgent Care Mobile – continuing to offer medical services at your home; Urgent Care Dental – Barbados’ first dental practice offering dental services not only here at Estates but for the first time in Barbados the dentist will come to you…and Imaging at the Estates which is a state of the art Radiology Suite with an ultrasound CT Scanner, Ultrasound and X-ray facilities,” said one of the founders and Managing Director of Urgent Care Barbados Dr Bandele Majeks.
He explained that he and the co-founder and visionary of Urgent Care Barbados and the Director of Operations Dr Makeba Brooks came up with the Urgent Care idea to expand Barbadians’ options to access medical care.
“We started brainstorming all the different ways we can improve things. Our primary concern at the time was not the quality of care being delivered. We know that the quality of health care being provided at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital has always been excellent and, we believe, second to none in the region. Our primary concern was the long waiting times that it took for patients to be seen – this is not a problem that is unique to Barbados but a problem that plagues the world over,” he told the audience which included several esteemed healthcare professionals.
“We sought to honour a time-old tradition of doctors visiting patients in their homes. That difference is to make the service consistently reliable at all times – be it day or night.”
Dr Brooks thanked present and past members of staff and others who had provided support along the journey, as well as “the people of Barbados for continuing to push us towards excellence – in enterprise, in health care and in patient experiences”.
“You are the reason why we do what we do because we believe you deserve nothing but the best,” she added.
Main partner and Director of Strategic Projects for Sagicor Life Inc. Edward Clarke expressed confidence that Urgent Care would “continue to grow from strength to strength in their endeavours”.
Urgent Care Barbados launched initially as Urgent Care Mobile in 2016 by Dr Majeks and Dr Brooks, both Emergency Medicine Specialists.
It is now a group of companies that includes Urgent Care Mobile, Urgent Care at the Estates (Urgent Care Clinic), Urgent Care Dental and Imaging at the Estates.
The Medical Centre is open to the general public 7 a.m to 7 p.m, Monday through Sunday, including holidays. Their mobile service continues to be a 24-hour operation. (MR)
