The Barbados Sailing Week (BSW) which concluded last weekend was deemed a success and Commodore, Peter Griffith thanked the various sponsors including title sponsors Mount Gay Rum and Barbados Tourism Marketing Inc for making the event a reality.

During his brief remarks at the closing ceremony, Griffith expressed gratitude to other key stakeholders including the Barbados Yatch Club and Barbados Sailing Association for their joint partnership at the 2023 edition of BSW that attracted international sailors to the island.

“To have a successful event we needed all on board and it has been wonderful this year. This association we cherish and we would like the Barbados Cruising Club to foster the unity around Sailing Barbados going forward.

“I would like also to recognise representatives of World Sailing, Mr Scott. Scott has joined us to see what he can do to assist us here in the Caribbean and we do appreciate the visit. We would also like to recognise Andrew Lowe who is also with him. Andrew is also with an agency that is with World Sailing,” Griffith said

He added, “These gentlemen we would like to welcome to our shores and to work with them going forward to ensure that our youths are well trained. So, we thanked them for coming and the interest they are paying to us and we would like to ensure you understand our appreciation.”

BSW commenced on Saturday, January 14th and concludes on Sunday, January 22nd with a series of activities.

Commercial Manager of Mount Gay Rum, Anies Jordan was in attendance at the closing ceremony and she said they are proud sponsors of the event. She added that they want to make the event more inclusive for the Barbadian public and was happy to see the partnership between all the partners involved in BSW. (ML)
