Legendary Barbadian jockey Patrick Husbands popped up at Gulfstream Park with three rides on Saturday but failed to find success.
The 49-year-old, who turns 50 next month, finished fifth in race one with 5-1 choice Mo Town Mayhem and third from last in race two with 22-1 bet Arms.
Husbands also came up short with 8-1 chance Souper Hoity Toity in the US$150 000 Sand Springs Stakes โ€“ one of 10 added-money races on the 14-race Curlin Florida Derby card.
All three rides came for celebrated Canadian trainer Mark Casse with whom he has formed a decades-old partnership riding at Woodbine racetrack in Toronto, Canada.
The million-dollar Curlin Florida Derby was won by favourite Forte with Irad Ortiz Jr aboard.
Riding in the dayโ€™s opener โ€“ a mile trip for the three-year-old maidens โ€“ Husbands bumped with 2-1 chance Prerequisite at the start and settled mid-pack, but failed to get the filly into contention as favourite Spansive took the wire one and a quarter lengths clear after a gate-to-wire effort.
In a five and a half furlong sprint in race two also for the three-year-old and upward maidens, Husbands was never a factor with Arms, the four-year-old gelding dawdling in mid-pack throughout before fading late.
Favourite Jerryโ€™s Turn, with Javier Castellano, won with a pace-setting performance.
The tale was a familiar one going a mile and the sixteenth in the Sand Springs, Husbands once again struggling to get the four-year-old filly Souper Hoity Toity into a threatening position, favourite Marketsegmentation coming late to win by a neck.
