Children with special needs were treated to a FunEaster 2023 event hosted by Kids Helping Kids Inc, on Saturday afternoon.
The event was held at the Derrick Smith School and Vocational Centre, Jackman’s, St Michael.
FunEaster gave scores of children with special needs the opportunity to have fun through a physically challenged access zone.
The children, and even parents who accompanied them, were able to participate in horse back riding, games, colouring, painting, a Tik Tok zone, jumping tents and even karaoke.
Several entertainers also performed some of their hits for the gathering.
Founder of Kids Helping Kids, Shakira Boxill, who formed the organisation to help children and the less fortunate, said she organised FunEaster 2023 to have children, particularly people from the disabled community, so that they too would have an event to attend this Easter Weekend.
“So, the funds that we would have raised here would go towards the Thelma Vaughan Memorial Home [the first home for physically disabled children in Barbados], and we would also be assisting the Derrick Smith School. Today, I gave the home a whole new computer system and I will be visiting the home on Tuesday to see all the other things that they need that I can assist with.
“I will also be visiting to read books, be there for play time, and have conversations with them. I want to be a part of the Thelma Vaughan Home and not just somebody looking to donate stuff. I made sure that the residents of the home came to the event and I took care of them for the entire day, including providing the transportation and food because I just wanted them to have a stress free enjoyable day,” Boxill said.
The Founder of the Non Profit Organisation shared that there has been an increase in Barbadians approaching the charity, asking for help in various ways.
She shared that some of the charity’s immediate plans also include visiting primary schools to see what assistance can be rendered to children in need. (AH)
