The Democratic Labour Party (DLP) celebrated its 68th anniversary on Thursday and used the occasion to rededicate its George Street headquarters.

President Dr Ronnie Yearwood told Barbados TODAY that this was a time for members to reflect on the party’s dedication to serving the nation from a spiritual point of view.

“We are celebrating 68 years today and this has been a moment to reflect, rededicate and recommission ourselves to the purpose of service from a spiritual level. We have to appreciate those of us who carry the faith and use faith to walk through this life. It is an important moment for us; everything is not of the material world, there are things of the other world,” he said.

Yearwood said the party has always been about service and representing the needs of the masses. He said the party had “fallen short of the glory” but it was time to get back up and try again.

“We all fall short of the glory, there would be no point pretending that it has been 68 years of perfection and everything has been right. There were moments where we fell short but once you fall short, you get up, pull yourself back together and you recall your purpose and continue to serve the people.”

During the short ceremony, Catholic Priest and Missionary Monsignor Vincent Blackett and other spiritual leaders prayed for the members present and rededicated the 21st anniversary plaque.  (SZB)
