Noel Gordon announced himself to the BFA Premier League in dramatic fashion with a stoppage-time winner as Brittons Hill edged basement boys Silver Sands 2-1 in a thrilling encounter on Thursday night at the Wildey Turf.

The 21-year-old substitute who is on a goal-scoring streak in the reserve league, enjoyed a debut to remember with a late goal to help Brittons Hill move ahead of Ellerton FC back into the second position on 23 points.

Gordon was introduced 20 minutes from time and repaid manager Fabian Wharton’s faith in him, with a left-footed beauty.

Earlier, golden boot contender Corey Hoyte gave Brittons Hill the lead with his ninth goal of the season but Silver Sands were level midway through the second-half compliments a fine strike from Derrine Gale-Forde.

Nevertheless, just when it seemed like Silver Sands would snatch an unlikely point, Gordon delivered big-time.

There were loud cheers from a section of the Brittons Hill support when Gordon was sent to warm up and it turned to pandemonium when his shot flew into the back of Shaquille Bradshaw’s net.

“I feel really good that I was able to come and contribute to my team getting three points. I’m super happy to score on my debut. As the ball came to me all I was saying is get it into the back of the net. I’m also happy with the support I got from my fans because it means a lot,” Gordon said in a post-match interview.

In the first encounter of the night, St Andrew Lions came from behind to beat Deacons 3-2 in a relegation contest.

Captain Keon Atkins who celebrated his birthday today gave Deacons the advantage in the 14th minute before Shamar Edwards produced a brace and Jadon Holligan pounced to give the Lions a 3-1 lead. Kavian Inniss scored for Deacons in the 87th minute but the Lions held on to a critical victory as they fight for safety. (AGB) ]]>
