The operations of the second largest credit union in Barbados came to a temporary halt on Thursday after an overload on one of its uninterruptible power supply (UPS) devices.
Chief Executive Officer of the City of Bridgetown Credit Union Steve Belle explained that the problem which occurred at the main office on Lower Broad Street caused power to all the online systems across its network to shut down around 11:30 a.m.
“We were able to find out what exactly the problem was. We fixed the problem within an hour. We had to bring in TMR Sales and Service to find out exactly what went wrong. What happened is that it was an overload in one of our UPS, and that was fixed, that was sorted out,” Belle told Barbados TODAY, adding that there was no major disruption to business.
“We couldn’t do anything for about the hour, hour-and-a-half that it was out, but once we found the problem and we regained power, all the computer systems were powered, we were back in business,” he added.
There were earlier reports of long lines outside various branches as customers faced closed doors while some others could not access the credit union’s online services.
But Belle said that as far as he was aware, not many customers were disadvantaged “at that point in time”. (EJ)
