A show to celebrate the tenth anniversary of Deputy Beer also proved to be a celebration for lovers of reggae and soca last weekend.

Beer Vibez at Kensington Oval was packed by the time the first live act hit the stage. Flying the Barbadian flag high, Walkes set the tone for what would follow. Crowd favourite Mole was up next and he thrilled with his selections including when he teamed up with Bruce Lee Almightee to perform their Crop Over 2023 release Daz My Friend.

The highnote of the Bajan contingent came from Lil Rick whose session started with Blessing and continued with Waistline Energy and All is Rum. As he performed Happy Birthday a large D representing the Deputy logo was wheeled onto the stage as part of the anniversary celebrations. Lil Rick wrapped up in patriotic form with I’z a Bajan.

Bungi Garlin excited his fans.

Jagwa De Champ also appeared in the segment.

Trinidadian soca stars Bunji Garlin and wife Fay-Ann Lyons delivered a top tier performance which left the already excited crowd energised. The charged-up audience sang along with them as the duo surprised with the Mighty Gabby’s Boots, Edwin Yearwood’s Wet Me and Sak Passe. They fully upped the ante with Red Plastic Bag’s Ragga Ragga and they also stimulated the enthusiastic crowd with some of their own popular material including Hard Fete, Big Bad Soca, Across the Stage Again, Girls, Meet Super Blue and Famalay.

Jamaican performer Teejay stripped down to beat the heat.

They were followed by Jamaican artiste Teejay. He was also well-received as he performed a series of his songs including the popular Uptop Boss and Owna Lane. He showed off his dance moves as he hyped up the crowd with Drift. Teejay flexed his vocals as he covered Mario’s R&B megahit Let Me Love You and Barrington Levy’s Too Experienced. Feeling distanced from his fans, he sent them into a frenzy as he exited the stage and went into the audience. His interactions with patrons in both the VIP and general areas as he sang From Rags to Riches added a special touch.

Deejays Zen the DJ, the Legacy Team, DJ Indian and Chris Gayle provided the early entertainment in the show hosted by Infamous HD and Jordan English. (STT)
