Twenty farmers received water solution and renewable energy kits this morning as part of the Ministry of Agriculture’s Cooperation for Adaptation and Resilience to Climate Change in the Caribbean project, done in collaboration with the Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO) and the Mexican government.

Representative of the FAO Buenfil said that farmers from 13 Caribbean countries stand to benefit from the initiative, noting that the Mexican government donated US$5 million to get the project going.

He said several Caribbean countries had limited water supplies and this project aimed to provide farmers with water storage solutions, and train them on how to use water efficiently and apply renewable energy to farming by implementing solar systems to operate irrigations systems.

The FAO representative said he hoped the initiative would help farmers increase their production. (SZB)
