Share FacebookTwitterLinkedinWhatsappEmail 498 In its 40th year of operations, the assets of the City of Bridgetown Credit Union (COB) assets have grown to just under $700 million. Newly re-elected president Dr Lynette Holder said the credit union has continued to record remarkable growth numbers from its modest beginnings in 1983, in its asset portfolio and also in its member base. Speaking at last weekend’s 40th anniversary media launch at the Hilton Barbados Resort at which an anniversary logo was launched, Dr Holder said: “Today, we can really take a look at the magnitude of COB’s operations to really appreciate where we have come from and the road that we have travelled. From that small team to today where we have 68 000 members, and the numbers are rising every month. From our most negligible assets in 1983 and just about 20 years ago where our assets were one $1 million, to today’s figure which now stands at $631 million.” The COB president also added: “We operate four branches across the island and provide employment for just over 130 persons, and we are ranked number two amongst the island’s credit unions in terms of our size. These achievements ladies and gentlemen are worth celebrating,” she said. The major activities for the special anniversary year include a thanksgiving service, a family day, sports meet, member’s appreciation days, and the relaunch of the Winston Alleyne Lecture. The COB president noted: “These events are planned to help us support the family of COB. These activities aim to promote the widest possible participation of members, along with their families and reinforce their sense of belonging; give higher national and community visibility to our credit union and draw public attention to, and create greater awareness of the COB success story.” (SB) ]]> You Might Be Interested In Crystal Beckles-Holder, 2nd runner up in regional competition GUYANA: Body of child found after gold mine collapses Barbadians asked to help with return tickets for Haitians Barbados Today Stay informed and engaged with our digital news platform.
