Grand Kadooment 2023.

The party on Station Hill, St Michael did not stop as overcast skies released intermittent showers on thousands of revellers chipping to the infectious soca music.

The Walk Holy Band which led off the Grand Kadooment parade this morning made a brief stop in front of the District ‘A’ Police Station just after 11 a.m. to pray for the success of the Barbados Police Service in its fight against crime.

Following behind in a flurry of feathers, jewelled stones and festive colours, the Blue Box Cart, Sankofah, Adinkra, Baje International and 20 other bands were well received by members of the public who took up most of the vantage points as they eagerly watched the revellers jump, wave and wine in the country’s largest street party.

Several prominent persons also took part in the festivities, including Members of Parliament Cynthia Forde, Marsha Caddle, Kirk Humphrey and Senator Dr Crystal Haynes to name a few.

Speaking to Barbados TODAY, Soca Artist Stabby described this year’s festival as great. He was particularly pleased with the  high quality of the music.

“Collectively, there have been some tunes that have stood out, but I think that with most of the music, the production quality has stepped up this year and the amount of tracks that are sounding good across the board, I love that this year. We are now really post-COVID, so people now get to shake that off and really get into events, especially the people that have come in from overseas. I went to four events yesterday, and all were packed,” he said.  jeniquebelgrave@barbadostoday.bb
