Teen who disrupted JetBlue flight gets reprimanded, discharged

Sixteen-year-old American choirboy Shiloh Cecil Bellot, who disrupted an international flight at the Grantley Adams International Airport last month, has been reprimanded and discharged for his actions.

Magistrate Douglas Frederick imposed the sentence on the teenager on Friday after he completed 80 hours of community service.

“Reprimanded and discharged. No conviction to be recorded. Don’t behave like that again on the plane,” he told Bellot when he appeared in the District ‘B’ Magistrates’ Court on Friday.

The teenager had admitted to behaving in a manner which interfered with the discharging of the functions and duties of a crew member by uttering the words “bomb the plane” while onboard JetBlue flight B662 on July 5.

In the facts previously disclosed by Sergeant Victoria Taitt, Bellot was travelling with his family and was scheduled to depart on the flight to the US when the incident occurred.

According to the information, he was on the aircraft standing among a group of teenagers by the boarding door when he said, “Somebody going to bomb the plane.”

A flight attendant was conducting her duties at the time and became alarmed. She asked the passenger who made the statement to identify themselves, following which the captain was notified and the matter reported.

In preparation for the sentence, Magistrate Frederick had ordered pre-sentencing and psychiatric reports on the teen who was represented by attorneys Michael Lashley KC,
