The Samuel Jackman Prescod Institute of Technology is gearing up for the start of classes Monday.

This year, the institution is welcoming nearly 600 students who have chosen to pursue technical vocational skills training.

Last Tuesday and Wednesday, the institution’s Wildey campus was a bustle of activity as new students attended orientation ahead of Monday’s start of classes.

Jade, a first-year student, described her experience, “I always wanted to come to SJPI. I am happy I was accepted.”

Principal Ian Drakes challenged the students to “develop survival skills critical for your success at the SJPI and beyond.”

He highlighted skills such as critical thinking and problem-solving; collaboration and leadership; agility and adaptability; initiative and entrepreneurialism; effective oral and written communication; accessing and analyzing information; and curiosity and imagination.

He further encouraged the students to strive for excellence; make achieving the highest level of competence in their respective disciplines their goal. (PR)
