Now that the rains have come, a team of volunteers from the ANSA McAL Group of Companies celebrated the 40th Anniversary of ANSA Merchant Bank in Barbados by planting 40 fruit trees along the Carmichael stretch of the Barbados Trailway Project managed by The Future Centre Trust.
The Trailway Project, currently under construction, is a 40km multipurpose trail network for use by cyclists, walkers and runners along the historic Barbados railway track that closed in 1937. The trailway will be lined with approximately 10 000 fruit trees including mango, breadfruit, and sugar apple. This is a five-year project which will provide equitable, sustainable, and safe mobility with parking areas, playgrounds, lighting, security and shelters for users.
Managing Director of Ansa Merchant Bank, Victor Boyce said: “As we enter our fourth decade as a strong and diversified financial institution, we felt there was no better way to commemorate this special occasion but by planting these 40 glorious fruits trees which hopefully will also be here for decades, providing a strong green trail for people of all ages to incorporate exercise into their daily routine. and the possibility that we leave will be relied on across all sectors of our businesses for generations to
come.”
Chairman of the Future Centre Trust Barney Gibbs said: “One of the goals of the Barbados Trailway Project, in addition to health and recreation, is to stimulate economic activity, entrepreneurship, and inland tourism along the former railway trace. With the generosity of corporate citizens like ANSA McAL Group who recently donated $20 000, we are making this happen.” (PR)
