Thirty-one students have won Barbados scholarships and exhibitions this year.

Minister of Education Kay McConney announced this morning that six students received scholarships – including Javani Alleyne who was given the inaugural Errol Walton Barrow Scholarship – while 25 have been awarded exhibitions.

The majority of the recipients were students of Harrison College, Queen’s College, The St Michael School, Christ Church Foundation and the Barbados Community College.

The announcement of the awards was made during a ceremony held at the Erdiston Teachers’ Training College.

Many of the scholarship and exhibition recipients are pursuing degrees abroad while some have decided to continue their studies at the University of the West Indies, Cave Hill campus. Science was the dominate subject area that qualified the students for the national awards. (SZB
