Minister of People Empowerment and Elder Affairs Kirk Humphrey told the media on Friday that Gibbons, who is still staying at the Barbados Alliance to End Homelessness (BAEH) shelter, visited the housing unit the Government is assisting her with and has indicated she is willing to accept it. He said the accommodation is in the process of being furnished. “As you can appreciate, this is a current case so, obviously, I am not going to tell you everything. But suffice it to say that over the weekend, we made efforts to have her come and see the facilities that we are offering. “She had some personal challenges and was not able to go over the weekend, but she went this week and the unit that we made available to her she has accepted. She is going to be placed in the unit and the Ministry is also working now to furnish the unit to have it available for her,” Humphrey said. The minister said Gibbons was informed that the housing would be available to her free of cost until she is in a position to pay. But, as it stands, the promises that we made are being fulfilled,” he said. Early last week, Gibbons’ two children were taken into the care of the Child Care Board (CCB) after a video circulating on social media showed her with them on the street. The family had been staying at the BAEH Spry Street, Bridgetown shelter at night but had to leave in the mornings and stay on the streets, as the facility is not open during the day.
