The Graydon Sealy Secondary School has implemented a programme aimed at making students brand ambassadors for the school.
After completing an etiquette initiative, the students will go on to represent the Paddock Road, St Michael, School in various aspects of their school life.
The programme is being catered to the prefect body and on Saturday 40 students took part in the etiquette workshop held at the Courtyard by Marriott Hotel in Hastings, Christ Church.
Organiser of the workshop and head of the school’s prefects committee Brian Parris told Barbados TODAY that the purpose of the initiative was “to mould our students to be well behaved students within society and also by extension school. The reason why we are doing this is that we think that these are stewards that could promote our school culture and by extension they can become our brand ambassadors. If we try to equip them with the necessary skills and values with etiquette, they’ll be able to be a model example to the rest of the school,” he said.
Prefect master Jerome Stuart acknowledged that a lot of the morals and values were declining among the younger generation and programmes such as this were important to ensure the way of life for Barbadians in years gone by was still maintained today.
“The aim is for them to become better citizens and create a better society,” he said.
During the workshop, the students were engaged in interactive sessions. They learned about the importance of soft skills such as effective communication, public speaking and fashion etiquette.
The instructor of the workshop was Kay Carrington of the Perfectly Poised Etiquette Academy.
